Drunk man: You know...chestnuts are good for your health.
Ghinwa: Oh, really? How come?
Drunk man: If you put them in your pocket, they improve the blood circulation in your legs.
Ghinwa: !!
Despite encouragement from friends and family to visit Barcelona during our time in Spain, we opted for the Pyrenees instead. :) We hiked in several parks over the better part of the week, and we were amazed with the diversity of vistas: dormant volcanoes, prairies, vast lakes, tiny pools, fragrant pine forests, and waterfalls. Most days we were kept company by pastoral animals like cows and horses.
On this trip we feel like we've had an extended autumn. We've chased that colorful season all over Europe. But in Parc Natural d'Aiguestortes, winter finally caught up with us and we witnessed our first snowfall of the year dusting the rocky peaks. That night, we learned the hard way that a sleeping bag rated for a minimum of 40 degrees isn't meant for winter. And on our last night in the Pyrenees, the condensation on our tent actually froze to the tent roof! We were basically sleeping inside a refrigerator. But we're insisting on camping till the end, and fortunately the temperatures have gone up after leaving the Pyrenees.
So four parks, five hikes, two snowfalls, and lots of shivering later, we left Spain.
